Raised by his Uncle Sirna Kolrami after parents where killed in an unfortunate Shuttle crash at age 3. Sirna took in Sinar and gave him the care and tutelage that he needed to become a master strategist. Sinar stayed with his Uncle until he was 12 when he began training at the exclusive Zakdorn Military Academy. His Uncles prestige and connections assured him a position with the Zakdorn military provided that he kept high marks and achieved political acceptance.
At the Zakdorn Military Academy Sinar was totally out of place. He was a troubled youth. Times there were not without some major misunderstandings. In his mind stealing the schools training shuttles for a weekend on his home planet was perfectly acceptable. The Academy thought otherwise. Sinar was also running a small gambling ring and was able to get just about anything a young Cadet could want.
As he matured these little episodes became less and less important partly from the pressure that his Uncle put upon him to succeed. He became a stellar student, and fell under the good graces of the headmaster. He joined the Strategema club, competing against many other cadets and being declared champion 10 years straight.
Upon graduation from the academy at the age of 25, Sinar was granted an apprenticeship with the Zakdorn High Council. This was a very elite opportunity only give to the top three graduates of the Academy. During this apprenticeship Sinar studied under the greatest strategic minds in the galaxy. He learned about conventional and unconventional battle tactics.
It was during this apprenticeship that he had his first interactions with Starfleet Command. He was present, with his Uncle, during the war games of 2365. During those games his Uncle made some serious errors in decisions that Sinar would not have. Uncle Sirna, is an arrogant man, having a superiority complex. This is not a fault that Sinar possesses. Sinar is a humble man due to his tumultuous youth. He learned from these games that some of the conventional Zakdorn wisdom is faulty. Zakdorns do not typically possess the ability to improvise, Sinar however learned at an early age, unconventional approaches are often more effective than traditional.
The period between the War Games and his commission with Starfleet was a period of exploration and study for Sinar. He spent many years running strategic operations for various conflicts and operations. He even returned to the Academy briefly as an adjunct instructor in unconventional tactics. His teaching methods where not accepted by the Academy because they went against conventional Zakdorn wisdom.
Upon leaving his teaching post he bounced around some more doing general strategic consulting for whomever would pay him to do so. He focused primarily on revolutions and unconventional tactics but took any job that would get him on a ship going somewhere. This was a very transitional phase in Sinars life due to being essentially excommunicated from his society. It was painful to him that they would not accept his new and controversial ideas.
After doing considerable advisory work for a few StarFleet commanders, Sinar decided that he had found a career that utilized his strategic knowledge. He joined up and was stationed on various stations. He was traveling on the U.S.S. Cutlass to another station when his life changed for the better.
While traveling on the U.S.S. Cutlass as a strategic advisor Sinar came into contact with Ken Wozniak, Commanding Officer of Deep Space 12. They spoke at length about the station and its missions. After considerable discussion Ken put in the request for Sinar to transfer to Deep Space 12 as his permanent station assignment.
